Spriglet is a native desktop companion for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 26 or later. The current character is Mallow.
Interacting with Mallow
Hover to get a reaction. Click to invite. Drag to pick up, then release while moving to throw. Click elsewhere to return home.
Mallow starts with its face visible below the notch. A short hover gives a small acknowledgement; a click brings it out. Touch it again for a wave or swing. Drag the character to pick it up. Release near the notch to let it catch; release away from it for gravity and a soft landing. Click elsewhere to bring it home.
Where it lives
On a notched display, Mallow uses the actual housing geometry reported by macOS. Displays without a notch use a small resting place near the upper right edge, below the menu bar. The bottom resting surface clears the space reserved by macOS. The app does not inspect other windows or assume it knows the exact Dock icon shelf.
Meeting Mallow
On first launch, a separate introduction shows five short demos with the actual character: hovering, inviting, dragging, catching home and returning to a quiet peek. Choose Next or a step to browse, Back to revisit, or Skip introduction to dismiss. Done, the close button and Escape also dismiss it. Your dismissal is remembered locally, so later launches stay quiet. Replay from Spriglet’s native Help menu, the offline Help panel’s Meet Mallow button, or the character’s direct VoiceOver action. The leaf in the menu bar opens Settings or quits Spriglet. Hide and Pause also freeze demo playback; replay keeps those choices. Show or resume Mallow to continue the animation. The character on your desktop has no instructional overlays. With Reduce Motion enabled, each demo shows a representative still instead of looping movement.
Keeping your work clear
Mallow stays in the resting peek until invited and returns after you leave it alone. The transparent margins of its window pass clicks through. Reduce Motion keeps blinking and deliberate dragging, but hover, invitation and dismissal change to still states. Release returns directly home without a precise catch or animated flight. Switching it on stops walking, hopping, falling and catch settling while preserving an active grab; Low Power Mode and thermal pressure lower animation cadence. Animation stops during system or display sleep, screen lock, an inactive session or critical thermal pressure. Waking, unlocking and changing Spaces return Mallow to its resting home. Home stays on the initial primary display as you move between apps unless you choose another display in Settings. Unplugging the chosen display uses the current primary display while preserving your saved choice; Mallow returns when that display reconnects.
Settings
Open the small native Settings window from the leaf menu and choose Settings…. Choose Small, Medium or Large character size. Small leaves only two tiny fingertips visible below the home edge. Briefly approach or hover in the strip below Home to reveal Mallow’s normal face, then click the visible character to invite it. Passing straight through stays quiet. Visible Mallow is immediately clickable, with no timed click gate. The hover strip spans the notch width and reaches 20 points into its lower edge on notched displays. On notchless displays it spans 120 points and stays below the menu bar. Both extend 24 points below the home edge. Empty space stays click-through; a started peek finishes before retreating gently, and ordinary pointer corrections are accepted, and brief exits leave time to move onto the face and click. Clicking or dragging brings out the same Mallow shape and size as Medium. Small stays tucked during autonomous idle moments, and Reduce Motion uses still peek and tucked poses. Medium is the default and matches the previous Small; Large matches the previous Medium. Upgrading from the previous size lineup starts at Medium; subsequent size choices are saved normally. Choose Gentle, Standard or Lively movement intensity; a home display; and Automatic, Top left, Top center or Top right location. Automatic uses the actual notch when present and the upper-right fallback otherwise. Changes apply immediately and are saved locally for the next launch. Reduce Motion takes priority over movement intensity. Changing size or home ends an active drag and returns Mallow to its updated home. A disconnected saved display remains selected in Settings until it returns or you choose another.
Settings can also be opened with Command-comma when Spriglet is active or through Mallow’s VoiceOver custom action. Opening Settings requests keyboard focus; closing the window leaves Mallow running. Tab and Shift-Tab visit every enabled control even with macOS keyboard navigation off. Use arrows to choose popup values and Space to press buttons or checkboxes. Bring Home in Settings recovers Mallow without dragging. Command-W closes the focused window.
Launch at login
Choose Launch at Login in Settings to start Spriglet when you sign in. It is off by default on a new installation. Settings refreshes when it regains focus or the registration changes. A checkmark means macOS reports it as enabled. A dash means it is registered but needs approval; it will not launch at login yet. Choose Open Login Items Settings… to review approval in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions. Turn off Launch at Login to cancel a pending registration or disable future login launches.
An unavailable state or failed change is shown separately from the actual registration. Failed changes display the macOS error immediately. Settings refreshes to reflect changes made in System Settings. Startup never re-registers the app or overrides your macOS choice. Repeated Finder or login launches share the same instance lock, so only one companion can start in the app’s container. Quitting leaves login registration as you chose it; disabling it keeps the current companion running.
Menu-bar controls and recovery
The leaf in the menu bar opens Settings or quits Spriglet. In Settings, use Show Mallow, Animate Mallow or Bring Home to recover Mallow, and choose Launch at Login. Meet Mallow and Help are available from Spriglet’s native Help menu and offline Help panel.
Hidden Mallow stays hidden through sleep, lock and display changes. Open Settings from the leaf in the menu bar and choose Show Mallow or Bring Home, or reopen Spriglet from Finder. Bring Home and Finder recovery return it to its resting home and preserve Pause.
Pause freezes the current pose and lets desktop clicks pass through; pausing an active drag releases it and returns Mallow home. Resume continues without simulating paused time. The visibility label reflects whether Mallow is actually visible; Show is unavailable while the display or session is suspended. Pause and Resume reflect your animation choice, independently of system suspension.
Settings exposes the same Show and Animate controls for this session, alongside saved preferences. Help is available offline and preserves keyboard focus in your current app. Closing either window keeps Spriglet running. Spriglet’s native app menu retains Bring Home, Settings, Meet Mallow, login status and Quit Spriglet. The leaf menu contains only Settings and Quit Spriglet; use Settings to recover hidden Mallow. VoiceOver character actions offer Invite with a wave, Swing, Stretch, Bring Home, Pause/Resume, Hide, Settings, Meet Mallow and Help. Its state describes held, catch-ready, moving, grounded and paused moments as well as its resting peek. Paused Mallow keeps recovery available. There is no Dock icon or action card.
Source builds and troubleshooting
Local source builds use ad hoc signing. macOS may block unsigned downloads; local validation does not imply Apple approval. For bugs, include the app version, macOS version, display arrangement, what you did and whether Reduce Motion or Low Power Mode was enabled. Avoid including private desktop content in screenshots.
